There is nothing more comforting than snuggling with your furry best friend. That warm fuzzy pup dispensing doggie kisses just seems to make the whole day better. So what are the most cuddle-seeking dog breeds to curl up with?
We have to keep in mind that each dog has distinctive personality traits. With that being said, some dog breeds are more affectionate than others. Below are our top five most affectionate dog breeds with no particular ranking.
Newfoundland
This breed is the gentle giant of the dog world. While they require a lot of exercise, they are happy to cuddle up to their family at the end of the day. And who wouldn’t want to cuddle up to this giant teddy bear? Newfoundlands have a reputation as being calm and loving dogs which makes them particularly good with children. In fact, they are so sweet-tempered that they were the number one choice for the dog-nanny in Peter Pan.
Labrador Retriever
According to the American Kennel Club, the lab is America’s favorite dog. Labradors are very affectionate with their humans and even strangers! One of the many signs of a Labrador’s affection is them leaning on their human for some love and head pats. Labradors will do anything for their families and when they are not playing, they love to cuddle with their humans.
Chihuahua
Among all breeds of small dogs, the chihuahua is a big dog in a small package and the perfect lap dog. Chihuahuas love to show their humans how much they love them by licking their hands and wagging their tails when their humans make eye contact with them. These sassy pups love to be carried by their humans and being snuggled. They tend to bond with one person and typically get along well with older and calmer people. Their bond with a companion is unbreakable!
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
This elegant breed has been raised as a loving companion for centuries. Cavaliers have naturally sweet personalities and think everyone is their friend. These cute pups are definitely more interested in cuddling than being a watchdog. Because of their small size, they are the perfect lap dogs. While they love to run around the yard with you, they are just as excited to snuggle with you on the couch!
Bichon Frise’
These cuddly little cotton balls make excellent companions. Bichon’s small size, like the Cavs and Chihuahuas, make them a great lap dog. While they love to lounge, they also love to play. A good mixture of cuddly and playful? That’s what Bichons bring to their families. Overall, Bichons are fun, full of energy, and very loving.
